It’s been over a month since the entertainment industry, along with most of the world’s businesses, has shut down as a result of COVID-19. Many actors now find themselves in between gigs or waiting for postponed jobs to begin once the economy opens up again.
In the meantime, what should we do? When we’re not in a show or on set or in the audition room, what should we as actors work on independently to make sure that our skills remain sharp and we are ready to jump back in the game once it starts?
Casting Director Erica Arvold suggests fine-tuning your business and entrepreneurial skills.
“Watch a TED Talk, learn how to be an entrepreneur, read a business book,” Arvold recommends. “The glorious part of acting is the creativity… but everyone is a business person.”
Acting Coach Richard Warner adds, “Get inspiration outside of acting books.” They both agree that every actor should read a book about screenwriting. Who knows? Maybe you’ll come out of this challenging period with a short script of your own ready to produce as an indie project.
