Holy Trinity premieres on Full Spectrum Features’ Filmfest

Written by Precious Ringor

Premiering at Full Spectrum Features video-on-demand is Holy Trinity, a short film by Molly Hewitt (Maggie’s Problem, Make Out Party) that celebrates standout visual artistry and gender-inclusivity.

After accidentally inhaling a mysterious aerosol can, Trinity – an independent, sex-positive millennial Dominatrix – suddenly gains the ability to speak to the dead.  As she comes to terms with her newfound power, she encounters a “colorful series of advisers” ranging from priests to drag queens to witches and more.

Hewitt describes the film as an “embodiment of the sense of albinism you get when you are moving through a world not made for you; an identification with the bright, the colorful, the loud – with saturated palette in every scene”

Before her feature debut, Hewitt starred and worked on production design for Make-out Party which won Best Production Design at the 2018 Las Vegas Queer Arts Film Festival.  Their short film Maggie’s Problem also won Best Direction at North Portland Unknown Film Festival and was an official selection for the Chicago Underground Film Festival as well as Olympia Film Festival.  In 2018, Hewitt received the Illinois Arts Council grant, a Chicago individual artist grant which assists Illinois artists in producing their artistic projects.

Molly Hewitt is a director, production designer, & performance artist who performs under the alias Glamhag

Described as a film that is “made by and for queer people,” Hewitt defines the importance queer representation in film:

“I think that having a well-rounded and diverse cast and crew can only enhance one’s storytelling. There are so many voices we have not heard from yet and stories that do not get to be told that would really do good in the world for people who need to hear them and see themselves reflected in these stories.”

The film features a unique set of characters starring the crème de la crème of Chicago’s queer artist community, including the famous Imp Queen, Heather Lynn, Theo Germaine (The Politician, Work in Progress) and writer/director Molly Hewitt.  All characters embody varying members of the LGBTQ community and variant forms of sexuality like sex work & BDSM.  The film promises to represent the community in a positive light, moving away from the falsification and fetishization of being queer.

“The arts, design of the film, and aesthetic is quite unique, eye-popping and colorful,” exclaims producer Jason Matsumoto, “if you could imagine a good portion of the queer community of Chicago coming together to make a film.”

Matsumoto is co-founder of Full Spectrum Features, which in partnership with Forager Films produced the film. The film is first to be featured in Full Spectrum’s newest VOD platform.  Other films being featured on the site are Sonia Sebastián’s Freelancers Anonymous (2018), Felix Pineiro’s I Am Not Broken (2018), and Eugene Sun Park & Sara Zalek’s Formidable Dreams (2018).
