Russell Williams II is the first African American to win two Academy Awards for Best Sound for his work on Glory and Dances with Wolves. He has worked on over 50 films since 1976. He is a full-time professor and Distinguished Artist in Residence at the American University School of Communication in Washington, DC.

2019 Marks the 30 year anniversary of release of the film Glory, a film considered by many to be the greatest Civil War film ever produced.

Russel Williams was the Winner of the Stan Lee Foundation Legend Award at the 2019 NOVA Film Festival. He gave sage advice to the audience during his acceptance speech.
