Submissions now open for Black Cat Picture Show

Early submissions for the annual Black Cat Picture Show are now underway. The festival will be taking submissions through April 25 from different categories like Feature Narrative, Documentary, Animation, and Student films. Running on its seventh year, this adjudicated film festival is the first and only one of its kind in Augusta, Georgia that provides a platform for independent filmmakers to showcase their work, exchange ideas, and form meaningful connections. Their slogan, “bringing new cinema in the old south” echoes their commitment to amplifying independent films in the CSRA (Central Savannah River Area) region.

In addition to film screenings, the festival will open on Friday, August 20 with a Film Artist’s Reception and will be closing on August 22 with a special brunch (festival passes will cover reception and brunch fees). Screenings of official selections will take place in Le Chat Noir theatre, a 100-seat black box theatre located in downtown Augusta. Filmmakers whose films are chosen to be screened at the theatre will receive two passes to the festival, admission for two to the Friday night reception and the Sunday Brunch, as well as discounts on additional passes, hotel rooms, and local restaurants. Besides that, trophies and cash prizes amounting up to $150 will be awarded to category winners.

At this time, the festival will only be taking digital submissions (with no files larger than 5GB). Film requirements include screener and submission fees, an agreement that the films be completed after January 1, 2019, and that films be available for screening during the festival dates. Lastly, don’t forget to add your physical address on either your FilmFreeway submission or cover letter to qualify for entry. See the FilmFreeway website for specific requirements of each category.

In addition to categorical awards, the filmfest will also be recognizing these accolades: Viewer’s Choice (which will be counted by popular vote over ballot), Wages of Cine (as chosen by a local production company of the same name), and Staff Pick.

*Note: Remember to submit before April 15 – anything submitted on or before May 23 will be considered a late submission.
